The St. James teachers and administration have determined that we need to move to a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports system.  We will be exploring this and learning as professionals during the 2016-2017 academic year.  We are excited to pursue this as a district as we begin to communicate more as an ECSE-12 system instead of individual buildings.  As a Superintendent, it is imperative that all students know of the expectations and outcomes.  All students means all students when it comes to positive behaviors, leaving no marginilized students underserved.

A decision has been made at the district-level that in the Fall of 2017 all 6th, 7th and 8th graders will move to a 1:1 Chromebook format.  To facilitate that, there will be extensive training for the teachers who will be leading these students.  This is explained in the Middle School Exploration Team Google Community.

The District Technology Committee was formed in the Spring of 2015 and has continued its work throughout the 2015-2016 academic year.  It will be important that this team stay connected to the building and renovation project as we upgrade technology infrastructure and rethink the media center space at the elementary and maker spaces at the Middle/Senior High School.  I led the meeting at which we dove into some specifics for future projects.  One of the questions that keeps surfacing in our district is whether students would have their own device if we went to a BYOD initiative.  As a racially and socially conscious Superintendent it is clear that with a 50%+ FRL student population, we will most likely have to assist families with accessing devices.  Keeping these kinds of questions - access to technology and internet - on agendas and in decisions is what a Superintendent must do to serve all segments of the student population.
